Melbourne City star Andrew Nabbout is set to miss the rest of the A-League season after suffering a serious thigh injury in his first-placed side’s 4-1 win over Adelaide United on Thursday night.

Following scans, City confirmed late on Friday that Nabbout had torn the adductor tendon in his left thigh in the first-half of the match at AAMI Park.

“We are unsure if he will be able to play any further part in the remainder of the season and will provide an update in the weeks ahead,” City said in a statement.

“He is a tough character and we know how hard he will work to come back even stronger.

“We wish Andrew all the best in his recovery.”

Nabbout’s absence not only hurts City but also the Socceroos, with the 28-year-old attacking weapon likely to have been included in Australia’s squad for next month’s four World Cup qualifiers in Kuwait.

City, who are in the box seat to win their first Premier’s Plate, return to action on Sunday when they host Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park.
